Born in 1936 in the Black Country, Tony developed his artistic foundations at Dudley College of Art, where he studied from 1952 to 1956, before continuing his education at the Royal College of Art between 1956 and 1957. Alongside his own creative practice, he contributed to art education as a visiting lecturer at Newport College of Art from 1969 to 1983 and later at Birmingham Polytechnic from 1983 to 1984. Throughout his career, he maintained an active painting practice, working from studios in London and Shropshire, and continued creating art until his death in 2010
